Works of architecture are discovered, not designed. The creative process is a path of discovery…It is very important to me to make buildings that work like instruments. They respond to light, to the movements of the air, to prospect, to the needs of comfort. Like musical instruments, they produce the sounds and the tones of the composer. But, I’m not the composer. Nature is the composer. The light and sounds of the land are already there. I just make instruments that allow people to perceive these natural qualities.
– Glenn MurcuttSpatial Construct: What if a buildings facade could be changed or manipulated? Does a facade really have to be permanent, what if it could be more than a facade? Maybe it can create interactions with the user and the performer?
Thesis Research Problem:
Boston Proper is orderly and refined both in its urban layout and cultural division. On the contrary, Boston Proper’s neighbor, South Boston, is a redeveloping community looking to create a unique identity. This thesis investigates this distinct district and its peculiar and dynamic adjacencies that begin to define and create its individuality.
